A GLIMPSE INTO AN ALTERNATE REALITY.
The focus of “THIS IS AMERIKA” is on some of the most dangerous and poorest areas of Chicago, but instead of showing them as they are, they are viewed through rose-colored glasses: imagined as how they could look in an ideal world.
The original references appear bleak and hopeless at first glance, yet here an attempt is made to capture their potential for something far more joyful.
Bright, vibrant colors replace the otherwise predominant muted grays and dark tones. Looking beyond the surface reveals a beauty and hope that are not immediately visible.

The series is about reinterpreting these places and evoking a positive atmosphere: a blend of hope and a daydream.
